2024 General Election: Have your say and help us influence the direction of change

It’s finally official. The next general election will take place on Thursday 4 July 2024.

On Wednesday (22 May), Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed the date to the nation outside No.10 Downing Street, saying “now is the moment for Britain to choose its future”.

This general election – like all the general elections that came before – will inevitably be dominated by debates on national issues, such as climate change and immigration, but the critical issues facing our region and its schools should demand the same level of thought and attention.

And that’s exactly why, with your help, Schools North East will ensure that education policy and its impact on our region’s schools is not overlooked at this critical time.

In the run-up to the December 2019 general election, we created a ‘Manifesto for North East Education’ with direct feedback from our amazing community of 1,150 schools, as well as key stakeholders from across the education sector. The Manifesto is a statement of intent and the foundation of focus on influencing the development of education policy, as it impacts on our region.

Of course, so much has changed over the last five years, including Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic, and Queen Elizabeth II’s death. These three defining moments in history – among many, many others – have irreversibly changed people’s perspectives, priorities, and passions, which is why we’ll be refreshing our ‘Manifesto for North East Education’ in the run-up to July’s election.

As the Voice, Glue, and Bridge of North East Schools, our organisation can’t push for meaningful, long-lasting change without your input, which is why we strongly urge you to have your say:

Equipped with this vital information, we’ll begin a fresh campaign to ensure our school colleagues and young people continue flourishing within well-resourced, nurturing, and purposeful school environments.

41 days to go and counting…

We can’t wait for you to join us for our annual leadership Summit 2024 at St James’ Park for the ‘must attend’ leadership event in the North East.

As school leaders, you work tirelessly to educate our region’s young people to give them the very best start in life, despite the pressure, workload, and ever-changing landscape that you’re forced to contend with.

Well, now it’s time to flip the script and EDUCATE WESTMINSTER, so that we can influence thinking to help create an education system where those difficult challenges are easier to overcome.

Despite what those with the most power might think, they can’t know everything, and it’s our job as a community to educate decision makers on exactly what it is that the North East needs, so they can finally align their policies with our priorities.

As a general election signifies change, the Schools North East Summit 2024 invites those in school leadership roles to come together and recognise the critical role they play in helping shape our region’s education.
