Event Overview

Regulation in Education: Building Safe, Supportive School Environments for Staff and Students – Hollie Rankin, Pastoral Team Manager & Designated Safeguarding Lead, Wise Academies, and Corrin Watson, Lead SENCO, Croftway, Malvins & Morpeth Road Academies
This session will explore the vital role of emotional regulation in primary schools, focusing on how trauma-informed approaches can support both pupils and staff. Practical strategies for embedding regulation into daily routines, staff wellbeing, and whole-school culture will be shared, with a focus on compassion and connection.
Scaffolding for Success – Alex Fairlamb, Director, Alex Fairlamb Consultancy Ltd
In this session, Alex will discuss why teaching to the top and scaffolding is so important for inclusive teaching. As part of this, she will look in depth at four key scaffolding strategies, examining the evidence, the implementation and the pitfalls
Sharing Best Practice: Strengthening Inclusion Across Schools – Nichola Swan, Assistant Head & Head of Inclusion/SENDCo, St Thomas More Catholic High School
Nichola will be speaking about how BBCET has supported schools with best practice in the areas of: Inclusive Quality First Teaching for all; TA deployment and Speech and Language Screening.

Corrin Watson
Lead SENCO, Croftway, Malvins & Morpeth Road Academies
Corrin is an experienced teacher with 17 years of working in education across Northumberland. She is the lead SENCO across three schools in Blyth, where she champions inclusive and creative support for children with additional needs.
With a particular focus on children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Corrin is dedicated to helping school staff develop strategies to better understand and support these pupils, ensuring they have every opportunity to thrive.

Hollie Rankin
Pastoral Team Manager & Designated Safeguarding Lead, Wise Academies
Hollie is a counsellor with over 16 years of experience supporting families and currently serves as the safeguarding lead across three primary schools in Blyth, Northumberland. She is a passionate advocate for trauma-informed practice and regularly trains school staff on supporting children’s emotional wellbeing.
Hollie is also the author of four books, including Guide to Supporting Children through Bereavement and Guide to Rebuilding Trust with Traumatised Children, offering practical tools for adults working with vulnerable children.

Alex Fairlamb
Director, Alex Fairlamb Consultancy Ltd
Alex Fairlamb is an Educational Consultant and has substantial experience as a Trust T&L Network Lead and Senior Leader of T&L, PD and Literacy. Alex is an SLE and an ELE as well as an Honorary Fellow of the Historical Association. She is a published author and her most book is called ‘The Scaffolding Effect’’. Alex is also a doctoral candidate who has just submitted her thesis focusing on equity and equality in education.

Nichola Swan
Assistant Head & Head of Inclusion/SENDCo, St Thomas More Catholic High School
Nichola is Assistant Head: Head of Inclusion/ SENDCo at St Thomas More Catholic High School ,a large secondary school in North Tyneside and works one day a week for Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust (BBCET), a large multi-academy Trust which serves schools across three local authorities. As part of her Trust role Nichola works within a SEN Team who provide school support, advice and guidance on best practice in relation to SEN and inclusion.

Do I need to install Zoom?
- You can join the call without downloading Zoom by clicking ‘join from browser’ when you launch the call on the day of the event.
- If you are using the Zoom app from your laptop or PC, please ensure that you have the latest version installed prior to the event. Download & install here!
Can I ask the presenter questions?
- You can submit questions for the speaker when you register, using the Zoom registration form. The Zoom chat function will also be available during the call and questions can be submitted here. You will also have the chance to unmute and speak directly with the speaker during any allocated Q&A sessions.
