Education Secretary Nicky Morgan recommends Amanda Spielman as new Ofsted Chief Inspector

Amanda Spielman, currently the Chair of exam board regulator Ofqual, has been chosen as the preferred candidate to replace HMCI Sir Michael Wilshaw.

Although not yet official, Ms Spielman is highly likely to take on the post, as national press are reporting that sources within the Department for Education have confirmed her appointment was cleared by Number 10.

A press release published by the Department today states that Ms Spielman is being recommended by the Education Secretary “because of her impressive breadth of experience across the education sector and her proven commitment to raising standards for children and young people”.

Nicky Morgan added: “I know that she is the right person to deliver the education white paper’s commitment to continue to improve the quality and consistency of Ofsted’s inspections, ensuring that it plays a central role in realising our vision of educational excellence everywhere.”
