Prep School opens Science Lab to experiment beyond curriculum

Barnard Castle Prep School in County Durham recently opened a purpose built Science Laboratory.

d6e655e07cc111e5a8ca6f81aea5525dThe Science block which has state of the art facilities will enable dedicated Science teachers to provide children with an insight into the chemical, biological and physical elements of Science, beyond the current curriculum. The Science garden, which is still under construction, will provide a woodland habitat, a sensory garden, an area where the children can carry out their own research and an area for the ultimate big bang explosions to take place safely.

The exposure to Science that the children will now have would not usually be accessible until the children reach Senior School age. It is therefore an exciting development for the Senior School teachers who anticipate being able to start their teaching at a much higher level than was previously possible.

Headmistress, Mrs Laura Turner said: “This is a fantastic addition to the School, allowing children from a young age to experience science at a new level in a specialised facility. Children are naturally curious and we have created an inspired environment for children to learn and develop their curiosity further in a fun and exciting way.”
