OPAL for Academy Trusts

Online

Wed 11 February 2026

11:00 - 16:00

Online

UK primary school children participate in up to 600 playtimes a year, accounting for 20-22% of the school day. Despite this, most schools don’t have a strategic plan for how they spend this time. There is a huge opportunity for academy trusts to be at the forefront of improving children’s lives through play.

One of the most sustainable ways for schools to improve playtimes is through the OPAL Primary Programme. OPAL is a mentor-supported school improvement programme addressing all the areas a school must plan for if they want to sustainably improve the quality of play. The programme blends elements of strategic school improvement practice, action planning, self-evaluation, playwork skills and knowledge, and 20 years of action-research.

Join Ingrid Wilkinson, Director of OPAL North East, to discover more about OPAL in the region and how it can work in your group of schools.

About OPAL North East

OPAL North East is the regional delivery partner for the OPAL Primary Programme. In the last decade, the team has worked with more than 300 schools, helping them to reimagine their playtimes. In that time, they have improved an estimated 3,000 acres of school grounds, trained more than 10,000 members of staff, and instigated upwards of 600,000 playful days — resulting in around 75,000 happier, healthier, more active children.
