Stokesley school students celebrate GCSE success after overcoming early challenges

Students at Stokesley School have been celebrating another strong set of GCSE and vocational qualification results this morning.

This cohort began their secondary journey under unique circumstances, with the cancellation of SATs and a transition period shaped by pandemic-related adjustments. Despite these early challenges, they have shown remarkable determination and adaptability throughout their time at school.

Sarah McGreal, Deputy Head Teacher, said, “I am exceptionally proud of our Year 11 students who have worked so hard to achieve such wonderful success. Their dedication, resilience, and commitment to their studies throughout the year have truly paid off, and it’s been inspiring to witness their growth both academically and personally. These results are a testament not only to their individual efforts but also to the unwavering support of our staff and the encouragement from families. We celebrate each and every student today and look forward to seeing all that they will accomplish in the future.”

All of our students have performed well and can be very proud of what they have achieved. One story of particular note is that of Alfie Gander who secured eleven qualifications, with nine of those at grade 9 or equivalent.

An equally important way of looking at the results is the progress made or the value that has been added. Samuel Cawthra achieved three grades higher progress than his peers nationally across all nine subjects

The Head Teacher, Mick Fenwick, commented, “This is a tremendous achievement by this group of young people who have brought so much to our school life and community.  We are delighted that our students have achieved the grades that enable the overwhelming majority to confidently move on to their chosen next steps—whether that be college, apprenticeships, or other exciting opportunities. I am very proud of all our students and wish them the very best for the future.”

A significant number of students are joining the Sixth Form at Stokesley School in September, many of our Year 11 students are returning being joined by students coming to us from other local schools. If you are still unsure about your future choice for post-16 study in September there are still some places available at the Sixth Form at Stokesley School.
