3,000 new primary school-based nurseries

13/06/24 – The 2024 Labour Manifesto announced that the Labour Party would create 3000 new primary school-based nurseries
25/09/24 – The Education Secretary announced the first stages, to upgrade spaces in primary schools. From October, schools will be invited to bid for a share of £15 million capital funding, with capacity in the programme to deliver up to 300 new or expanded nurseries in this first round. Funding will be allocated in Spring 2025.
17/10/24 – First round of funding announced. Primary schools can now apply for up to £150,000 of £15 million capital funding. Further details.
30/10/24 – Autumn Budget 2024. £15 million to begin delivery of the pledge to create 3,000 new or expanded nurseries through upgrading space in primary schools.
04/09/25 – Government delivers thousands more school-based nursery places. 189 of the 300 of first phase of government-funded new or expanded nurseries are set to be up and running. Beginning of phase 2, more schools to bid for up to £150,000 funding from a £45 million pot to create a further 300 new or expanded best start school-based nurseries – offering up to 7,000 more places – from September 2026.
