Year 4 students auto-ly delighted with a recent visit to Nissan in Sunderland
We’re all more than familiar with the expression “hard work pays off”, but nothing beats actually seeing this in action!
This was certainly the case for students at Wylam First School in Northumberland, and we’re delighted by the adventure that followed their successful writing project.
An exclusive invite from Nissan’s Vice President
The determined Year 4 pupils had been working very hard on writing persuasive letters focussing on climate change, and clearly they had indeed mastered the art of persuasion…
The letters climbed all the way to the top and reached Adam Pennick, Vice President of Sunderland’s Nissan factory.
Mr Pennick was so impressed by the letters that he invited the Year 4 class to Nissan’s Skills Centre, allowing them to take part in a range of exciting activities. Oh, and they even had the opportunity to debate with him (yes, the Vice President!) on the contents of the climate change letters.
First-hand experience and memories to last a lifetime
On the day, after taking part in Nissan’s Eco Skills module, the unique Q&A session began.
The pupils questioned him on topics including Nissan’s vision for zero emissions, and in-depth discussions on electric cars, flying cars(!) and other engineering/environmental issues closely followed.
Wow, it sounds like the pupils gave Mr Pennick a bit of a grilling there! We hope they didn’t exhaust him too much…
Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “It sounds like the year 4 pupils had a fantastic trip to Nissan, and learned a lot about the potential challenges within engineering and the environment. Both are very important topics, especially in today’s society.
“Learning outside the classroom encourages confidence, social skills, communication, and motivation, so this trip gets a big thumbs up from us!”
Wylam First School thanked Nissan and Mr Pennick for such a generous invitation and a hugely enjoyable trip for our pupils.
