Newcastle School for Boys pupils achieve significant added value in their GCSE grades

As pupils of Newcastle School for Boys received their GCSE results from this summer’s exams, there was particular celebration for those pupils who added significant value to their exam grades.

The Gosforth-based, independent, boys’ school use informed assessment data on each pupil’s entry into the School to measure likely future grade outcomes. This data is used as a benchmark throughout their education and ultimately against their A level and GCSEs results.

This year’s GCSE pupils were able to add significant value to their results across the entire grade spectrum and in a wide range of subjects.  The School regularly achieves significant added value that places it in the top 10% of UK schools by this measure.

In a year where pupils once again faced uncertainty and a national downturn in results, over three quarters of the School’s GCSE cohort achieved grades 9 to 5. Biology and Maths were amongst the School’s top performing subjects.

Many of the pupils now go on to study their A level and Cambridge Technical courses at Newcastle School for Boys sixth form.

Mr David Tickner, Executive Head of Newcastle School for Boys, said of the results:

“We’re very proud of the effort and hard work that our pupils have put into their studies. It has been a challenging time for this group, but they have demonstrated resilience and adaptability in securing these results. We look forward to seeing many of them in school again in September where they start the exciting next phase of their education.”
