St. Aidan’s Church of England Academy students open GCSE results

St. Aidan’s Church of England Academy is celebrating a record number of pupils achieving the top grades in their GCSEs today, with 35% of our pupils achieving grades 7- 9 and 20% of our pupils achieving at least one grade 9 or equivalent.

Outstanding individual achievements included Tori B, who achieved, amongst other results six grade 9s and two grade 8s, Tori will be going on to study Biology, Physics, English Literature and English Language at Durham Johnston. She said:

“Last night I didn’t sleep, with all the anticipation and worry. I’m so relieved and happy now! I’d like to say thank you to all the staff and teachers for their help and support over the past 5 years.”

Imogen H and Matvejs M were another two pupils delighted with their results. Imogen will be studying Biology, Graphics and Geography or Geology at QE after receiving five grade 9s and three grade 8s. She said:

“I’m really happy with my results, I want to say thank you to all of my teachers, in particular those who have taught me my core subjects. They have helped me to achieve the grades I need to go to college.”

Matvejs achieved five grade 9s and one grade 8 and is planning on going onto study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics at QE. He said:

“I feel fantastic, all of my hard work has paid off. Mr Goodwin and Miss Higgins were a huge help to me and if I could give any advice to pupils for next year, it would be to make sure you do lots of revision outside of school as it really does help.”

Charlotte L and Marcin H achieved the most progress in their year group, gaining almost 3 grades higher in all of their subjects than expected. Marcin is going to QE and Charlotte is going to Middlesbrough College to study Science and Maths.

Dean Lythgoe, Head Teacher, said:

“Congratulations to our students on what they have achieved, an enormous amount of hard work has gone into today’s GCSE qualifications. We should remember that this Year 11 has faced unprecedented challenges through their time in secondary school. Our students worked hard, attended well and have delivered an excellent set of results for themselves and St Aidan’s Academy. As a school, we are particularly pleased with record numbers achieving the top grades. We congratulate all our students; they deserve great credit for what they have attained.”
