Excelsior Academy Celebrates Fantastic GCSE Results

Excelsior Academy’s Year 11 pupils, their families, and staff are delighted with the GCSE and vocational results published today. Similar to their Sixth Form peers, the Year 11 pupils demonstrated exceptional determination and resilience despite the disruption and uncertainty caused by the pandemic.

Top-level performances

Many Excelsior pupils achieved a Grade 9 in subjects such as English Language, English Literature, Maths, Science, Geography, Spanish and Photography, placing them in the top 2% of their peers across the country. Many of the students who have English as an additional language have also achieved a Grade 9 in Chinese, Italian, Portuguese and Turkish.

Furthermore, the pupils showed top-level vocational performance with double distinction stars in Business, iMedia and PE.

James Andriot, Excelsior Academy Principal, commented:

“Our pupils lost hundreds of learning days due to COVID over the last two years. Nevertheless, they worked hard and their fantastic efforts paid off today. Thank you to the pupils for never giving up and showing us all the meaning of the word resilience; to my Excelsior colleagues who went the extra mile every day to support Year 11 both academically and pastorally; and, finally, to the parents and carers who helped to get us here. We look forward to welcoming Year 11 back into Sixth Form so that they can continue to build on their successes.”

Ian Simpson, Laidlaw Schools Trust CEO, added:

“Considering the challenges everybody has encountered over the last few years, these remarkable results are a testament to the students’ resilience and hard work, the staff’s dedication, and the parents’ and carers’ support. Everyone at the Laidlaw Schools Trust and the Laidlaw Foundation is incredibly proud to work alongside such devoted professionals. The Trust look forward to many of the Year 11 students returning to Excelsior Sixth Form, which celebrated excellent results last week and secured fantastic university destinations and apprenticeships.”
