Northern Education Trust Primary Academies excel in KS2

Northern Education Trust (NET) are celebrating their Primary Academies this week following Key Stage 2 SAT results that buck the national trend.

NET currently sponsors 21 Academies – 10 primary and 11 secondary – making it one of the largest Multi Academy Trusts in the North of England. All 19  of their Trust academies which have been inspected by Ofsted are judged to be good or outstanding.

Higher than the national average

Assessments were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, making this year the first key stage 2 attainment statistics since 2019. Attainment nationally has decreased to 59% of students meeting the expected standard in reading, writing and maths. A drop since 2019 where only 65% me the standards

However, NET attainment has increased across all areas. NET reports that in the combined measure of reading, writing and maths, a magnificent 70% of their students achieved the expected standard or above – 11 percentage points higher than the national average. These attainment statistics cover NET’s year 6 students, who took the assessments this summer.

Moreover, the results are above the national average across all areas. Reading is 79% (compared against the national measure of 74%); writing is 77% (compared against the national measure of 69%); and maths is 78% (compared against the national average of 71%).

NET states their vision as constantly focusing on standards ‘as we understand outcomes are paramount’.  Not only has the trust performed above the national average, the percentage of those students who are eligible for pupil premium, who achieved the expected standard in reading, writing and maths, is 68%.

Jane Wilson, Deputy Chief Executive, commented:

“Current key stage 2 students experienced huge disruption to their learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, which had a profound impact on primary-aged children and their families. Our staff have worked incredibly hard to mitigate these enormous challenges, and we have put many measures in place to ensure our students have not been disadvantaged in the long term. We are therefore absolutely delighted with our results, which are testament to the commitment and determination of staff, students and their families. This is an amazing achievement, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved, and send our sincere congratulations to all of our students.”

Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East added:

‘NET’s fantastic SAT results are a wonderful way for the Trust to end the school year. A big well done to all of those involved.  This is another fantastic advert for the outstanding education provided by the North East’s schools.’
