Town End Academy’s Children in Need story
I heard on the radio about the tree planting initiative (The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC)) created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Investigating the website I was directed to the Woodlands trust, where I applied for trees to plant around school. We were lucky in securing 350 saplings (50 small copse, 105 wildlife, 105 year round colour and 105 wood working).
As a school we decide to plant the trees on Children in Need day (Friday 19th November) making it an environmentally friendly day! Each child and member of staff (teaching and non-teaching) will have a label attached to their tree with a poem, their name, year group and the date so in the future they can come back and see the progress of their trees.
Every child in school will plant a tree in order to help the children of the future. As the biggest plants on the planet, trees give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilise the soil and give life to the world’s wildlife. They also provide us with the materials for tools and shelter. We believe this is a great way to provide for the future generation, whilst having some fun outdoors. “PLANT A TREE AND PLANT HOPE FOR FUTURE”

This young tree is just like me,
Growing strong through the years, as you will see.
In the sun, rain, wind and snow,
Stretch out to the sky and watch us grow.
Strong and kind, thoughtful and true,
With whatever we will do.
Now take the time to watch and see,
What will become of my tree and me.
