Pupils proud to attend North East school
Following an inspection in November, Prudhoe West Academy has received incredibly positive comments from Ofsted as they are deemed to be a good school.
The letter from the regulatory body, which the school sent out to parents this week opened with the statement: ‘It is obvious pupils are proud of their school and love being there.’ Other comments noted how the school is inclusive with the school creating an overall safe environment for pupils with the report commenting that ‘The pupils’ self assurance and confidence speaks to how safe they feel in the school, even going so far to say that: ‘’Pupils are shocked to even be asked if bullying takes place.’, and ‘Pupils speak with maturity about the importance of good mental health’ two aspects which are incredibly important particularly in a modern school. The school was also commended for creating high pupil expectation along with being passionate to see the best for all pupils being inclusive for those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
It was great to see the encouraging comments which the school staff received where they were commended for their work designing and planning a curriculum which ‘builds knowledge sequentially’ which prioritised reading. There was also a comment on the resourcefulness of the school staff in the classroom with a sequin bear, narwhal and sausage dog getting a mention for their important role in encouraging behaviour, attendance and tidiness. However, most importantly the staff were praised for their extremely positive attitude about working in a school- a comment which can be echoed around all the schools in the North East.
The school received a letter of congratulations from their trust- WISE Academies chair of trustees which said:
‘Trustees are well aware of the increased expectations and the challenges faced by all schools in
attaining a favourable inspection outcome under the current Ofsted framework, particularly under
the current circumstances whilst our academies are working hard to deal with the effects of the
pandemic and the consequent disruption to our children’s education.
‘Trustees are genuinely delighted to receive such excellent feedback. It is clear that this Ofsted success has only been possible as a result of a whole team effort.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, a very well done to pupils, staff and local governors. Everyone
involved should feel justifiably proud of what they have achieved.’
Zoe Carr, CEO of Wise Academies was particularly delighted with the inspection telling Schools North East:
“Myself and colleagues from across WISE Academies are delighted with Prudhoe West Academy’s great Ofsted outcome. The inspection captured the ethos of the academy extremely well, resulting in the many positive statements about the work of the school in the final report. Huge congratulations to the Prudhoe West team who have worked tirelessly to ensure that all aspects of the school are of a very high quality; the wider curriculum is really well developed and pupils have wonderful opportunities and a plethora of meaningful experiences.”
Director of Schools North East, Chris Zarraga commented:
“This is a great story to receive and a very positive way to start the new year. Schools North East is dedicated to countering the negative narrative around schools which is prevalent in so much media commentary. We aim to ensure that the amazing work of all North East schools receives the regional and national prominence it deserves.”
