Schools North East would like to extend their congratulations to Partner School Haughton Academy in Darlington, as they celebrate being awarded a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted for the first time in their history.

Ministers from the Department of Education took questions from MPs in the House of Commons this week.

Examinations are back in the spotlight this week, as Robin Walker MP, Minister of State for School Standards, announced that where schools have sufficient evidence of Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs), they should ‘bank’ it and focus strictly on preparing students for examinations this summer.

Schools North East knows that hundreds of schools across our region have rallied round to support the people and children of Ukraine at this terrible time.  We collated as many of these stories as possible to share the excellent work which North East schools are doing during this particularly distressing time.

Pupils from St Patrick’s Catholic Primary and Christ the King Catholic Primary School visited their local fire station to show their appreciation of the firefighters who operated there.

Schools North East has regularly conducted surveys and roundtables throughout the pandemic on key issues and challenges our schools are facing in order to ensure that the voices of North East school leaders are heard as widely as possible.

The future direction of the education system was the main focus at the annual Schools North East Academies Conference on Thursday. It was a real pleasure to see, in person again, literally hundreds of academy and Trust leaders attend, representing over 400 schools from the length and breadth of the NE region; almost 40% of the NE’s schools from Redcar to Northumberland and some colleagues from beyond the region as well. The day was specifically about supporting Trust leaders, CEOs, CFOs, Heads of School, Chairs, everyone who is such a critical part of our region’s amazing school system.

Schools North East knows that hundreds of schools across our region have rallied round to support the people and children of Ukraine at this terrible time.  We are looking to collate as many of these stories as we can to share them with the media and help engage more people with your efforts.   Please tell us what you are doing to help i.e writing letters, collecting cash, food, clothing etc.  Please help us to magnify your efforts and let the children of Ukraine know that we will do all we can to help.
