The regional education network, SCHOOLS NorthEast, backed Government plans to pilot better mental health provision for schoolchildren in Sunderland.

The Wearside city is one of 22 areas nationwide that will benefit from £3m investment by the Department for Education and NHS England to support the wellbeing of schoolchildren.

The North East education network, SCHOOLS NorthEast, today welcomed the chief of Ofsted’s calls for London Challenge-style education improvement in the North.

SCHOOLS NorthEast, which represents 1,250 schools across North East England, also backed his calls for greater efforts to tackle the growing teacher recruitment crisis.

Fair national school funding formula would bring £45.6m windfall to region (25th November, 2015)

GOVERNMENT plans to level the playing field on school funding were today broadly welcomed by SCHOOLS NorthEast.

The Chancellor announced in his Autumn Statement today that he was introducing a National Funding Formula for schools that would replace the current Dedicated School Grants payment system which sees some London schools receiving double the amount per pupil than the North East.

Schools-led Commission on Mental Health plans announced (17th October, 2015)

SCHOOLS NorthEast has announced plans to launch the North East Schools-led  Commission on Mental Health.

The initiative, to be launched next term, will bring together school leaders and experts in a range of statutory and support bodies to provide solutions to the growing problem of mental health issues affecting schoolchildren across the North East.

It gives me enormous pleasure to be here today, addressing you at my first SCHOOLS NorthEast Summit - the 8th Summit in the organisation’s history.

This is a truly unique organisation that reaches to all four corners of the North East and engages across all sectors and school types. From Berwick to Saltburn, both primary and secondary and across state-maintained, acadamies, independents, UTCs and free schools, our driving purpose of being schools-led and for all schools, is one that endures.
