The PTA of Walbottle Village Primary School organised a colour-run obstacle course as a way of saying thank you to the pupils for all their hard work over the past year.
A successful 12 months
Walbottle’s PTA is a small team of willing volunteers who, over the past 12 months, have organised costume swaps for Halloween and world book day to help families; the team has held celebration mornings where parents and carers have been invited into school on dedicated mornings to celebrate with their child their proudest piece of work – of course, cake and coffee were also involved at these events. The PTA has also collected crisp packets to turn into survival blankets for the homeless, helped at numerous fairs, coronations, and sporting events, and most recently secured funding from multiple sources to revamp Walbottle Village’s science garden.
The PTA said:
“We’re so incredibly proud of what we have achieved as a very small team over the past 12 months for Walbottle Village. The children and raising vital school funds are at the heart of why we do what we do, and for all of the children’s, parents, and staff’s support, we wanted to say thank you in a very different way -and what better way than being crazy and getting colourful at the end of term.”
A colour run like no other
With over 170 children, year groups came out onto the school field in stages to music and trays upon trays of coloured powder. Once the safety briefing was over, it was time to put on those safety glasses and get ready for action. Making their way around the PTA’s assault course, the children took part in activities such as wiggling like a worm, showing the PTA their best superhero action, hopscotching across the hula hoop circles of craziness, and at one stage, the PTA let the children loose with buckets of powder for ten seconds.
Judging by the rainbow colour they had all become, the children and PTA had a blast, and so did some of the children’s teachers who were brave enough to take part.
Amanda Wright, PTA member commented:
“All of the staff at Walbottle Village Primary School work incredibly hard to make every child feel special and looked after. We understand funding is tight and resources are limited, and we have thoroughly enjoyed being able to contribute in a small way to school life. However, I do think I’ll be washing the pink out of my hair for weeks!”
Fiona Sample, Acting Deputy Head Teacher said:
“Walbottle PTA have come up with some wonderful ideas to support the school this year culminating in the plan for a colour run. All children were extremely excited in the run up and were delighted by the activities that PTA had prepared for them on the field. PTA have certainly given the children a day to remember for years to come!”
