Year 7 pupils from Marske are looking to the future with high aspirations thanks to links forged between Errington Primary School in Marske and Prior Pursglove College in Guisborough which are both academies in Tees Valley Collaborative Trust.
Ambition Prior
The scheme, called ‘Ambition Prior’, was conceived by the Trust’s CEO Joanna Bailey as a way for the primary school to encourage the highest aspirations in its Year 6 pupils by offering each and every one of them a guaranteed place at Prior Pursglove College when they leave secondary school.
Last year’s cohort – the class of 2022 – met up at Prior Pursglove College to take part in educational and fun activities to familiarise them with sixth-form life, the college campus, staff and take in the whole ambience. The theme of this year’s activity was an enterprise challenge.
Thanks to the co-operation of local secondary Head Teachers, such activities happen in each year of their secondary education to keep the pupils motivated and focused on a bright future at one of the most successful colleges in the area.

“We are delighted to welcome the former pupils of Errington Primary – it will give them a glimpse into the exciting opportunities that await at the college and the wider Trust. During their visit, they will have the chance to interact with our dedicated teachers, who are experts in their subjects and committed to helping them discover their interest and potential. We are also very proud of our partnership with Bydales, the local secondary school who are a conduit between primary and further education for these young people”
Sarah Rule, Head Teacher of Errington Primary School said:
“The whole event was a success from start to finish. It was wonderful seeing our pupils from last year and how they had grown and developed since we last saw them. They were so keen to think about their career choices as they know this has such an impact on their choices through secondary. Our current year sixes have also signed up in droves for next year’s event – this partnership is working at its very best.”

“By the time these pupils enrol at the college at age 16 they will be thoroughly familiar with their surroundings, enabling them to get off to the best possible start in their sixth form career.
