We’ve been fortunate enough to hear about some amazing Ofsted and Catholic Schools Inspectorate reviews recently, and St Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School is no exception.
The primary school, which is based in Seaham and part of Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust, received an ‘Outstanding’ rating following their recent inspection by CSI.
Brilliant news, everyone! These inspections aren’t to be taken lightly, so when a good (or should we say ‘Outstanding’) outcome is achieved, we must shout it from the rooftops.
Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “Congratulations to everybody involved; we love nothing more than hearing all about how good North East schools really are.
“We know we’re capable of doing it, so when that translates into tangible results, it’s always a cause for celebration. We hope you’re as proud of yourselves as we are of you!”
Always a delight to hear that children love learning
In the report, CSI lead inspector Elaine White commented: “The commitment and pride shown by all pupils in belonging to the school is a strength; their behaviour is exemplary, and the respect and care shown for all is outstanding.
“Pupils achieve well in religious education, making very good progress as they journey through the school, leading to excellent outcomes. They are developing into religiously literate young people as is clearly evidenced by their discussions in class.
The report also highlighted how pupils talk confidently about their learning, using religious vocabulary accurately.
Elaine White continued: “Pupils enjoy lessons; they engage fully, and they participate with enthusiasm. They demonstrate a real commitment to learning, and a desire not only to deepen their knowledge and understanding, but also to link their learning with their daily lives.
“Teachers plan lessons that are creative, engaging and which build upon prior learning and achievement. They have high expectations of their pupils and are skilled in checking, understanding, and addressing any misconceptions quickly and effectively.”
Leadership at the school on Mill Road in Seaham was also emphasised as a strength in the report, something we already know our teachers in the North East are exceptional at.
The report underlined how “leaders share a common vision for the school” and that they are “highly ambitious, and totally dedicated to ensuring that all pupils experience an enriching Catholic education that provides excellent formation.”
Head Teacher Nicola Noble said: “We are so proud of our school community and are delighted that the inspectors recognised the many opportunities our pupils have and the commitment of our staff.
“However, St Cuthbert’s would not be the place it is without the wonderful relationships we have with our families, parish and governors and most importantly, our unique and talented pupils who show us every day that they live out our Christian faith with joy and commitment.”
