Case Study

Shotley Bridge Primary School Visit

Our Community Visit team attend schools and community groups around the North East. One of these was Shotley Bridge Primary School, where our visitors took part in a four-hour event with pupils, designed to teach them about the correct use of our service, raise awareness of how and when to call 999 and 111, and to create career aspirations by learning about different roles within the ambulance service.

Pupils were split into year groups, where they rotated around four different zones for 50 minutes each. These zones were:

  •  Service awareness and how to access services
  • CPR demonstration and training
  • Tour of an ambulance
  • Design a poster competition

Feedback from staff and pupils highlighted that the children’s awareness of what to do in an emergency had increased, and they had gained important lifesaving skills that they would be able to use if they needed to.
