Adrian Lyons, HMI, Ofsted

Adrian Lyons has been one of Her Majesty's Inspectors since September 2005.  He is a qualified and experienced mentor for new HMI and leads the inspections of primary schools, secondary schools and initial teacher education.

He has significant experience and expertise in monitoring schools causing concern. His previous employment has including school teaching and leadership, work as a senior lecturer in a university department of education and freelance work as an Ofsted inspector, a Department for Education trainer and a trainer and assessor for beginning teachers.

In addition to being Ofsted’s national lead for economics, business and enterprise, he was the assistant lead inspector on Ofsted’s 2013 careers survey and the lead for Ofsted’s 2016 survey ‘Getting Ready for Work’.

Emma Garrick has worked within education for over 16 years, in various teaching, support and marketing roles. Specialist areas include research and development of career and aspirations programmes from primary to post-16, STEAM education, creative development and innovative practice.  Emma, is the Director of Futures Consultancy, who specialise in supporting education, organisations and business to develop their engagement plans and is also Director of The Central Exchange, a dedicated skills and development space supporting people of all ages to explore, learn and develop personally and professionally.

Inspiring and preparing the next generation for the world of work is the rallying call of the Careers and Enterprise Company who are nationally re-energising engagement between schools with businesses. As their COO, Natalie is working with schools and businesses to join this movement, and building a network of 4,000 business volunteers to support teachers around the country with careers education. Natalie joined the company from the Mayor of London’s office, where she built his volunteering programme ‘Team London’, engaging 1 million Londoners, including over 400,000 young people, and leading London to become European Volunteering Capital 2016. Prior to the Mayor’s Office she worked for London 2012, mobilising the 200,000 workforce required to deliver the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and she began her career at global management consultancy, Deloitte, working on transformation programmes across multiple sectors and continents. Outside of work she has always demonstrated passion for young people, is a School Governor, an Enterprise Adviser and a Board member of a youth focused Social Enterprise.

Lindsey Joy’s role at the North East Local Enterprise Partnership is Enterprise Co-ordinator – this involves bridging the gap between education and the world of work by bringing together key figures from business and senior leaders from education to work together on careers strategy. The North East LEP has successfully piloted the Gatsby Foundation’s Good Career Guidance Benchmarks – which aim to ensure that each and every young person has access to quality careers guidance.  Lindsey has significant experience in the third sector, and her background in Primary teaching equips her for working successfully with the region’s schools and colleges.

Andrew is the ringmaster at Inspire2Learn. From beginning his career as a primary school teacher in some of our most deprived areas, through developing national education strategies and training people all over the world in effective learning using technology, he has always looked to engage young people in the process. Through experience and research, the activities and initiatives now being offered at Inspire2Learn are designed to saturate young people with a sense of empowered self belief in a world that often seems irrelevant to them. Inspiring Girls, scrapheap challenges, STEM days, Aspiration events, animation, enterprise, creativity...the list of events has grown year on year. Last year I2L worked with over 10 000 pupils in the Tees Valley through an increasing number of relationships with local businesses, organisations and employers

The Careers & Enterprise Company are on a mission to reshape the careers and enterprise landscape to inspire and prepare young people for the world of work - Clare’s role is to oversees operations across the north and midlands.  Clare has an extensive background in the recruitment and development of young talent.  She is an experienced graduate recruiter having spent several years as a Graduate and Early Identification Recruiter for a global professional services firm.  This led to providing advice to professional services firms across the NW on recruitment, development and retention of graduate talent.  An interest in social mobility led to Clare joining the responsible business charity, Business in the Community, setting up and overseeing the Business Class education programme in the NW, connecting schools to employers to develop long term strategic relationships.  This also afforded to the opportunity to work on a five year, collaborative piece of work based in East Lancashire focusing on social mobility, a piece of work commissioned by HRH Prince of Wales, leading on aspiration and employer engagement in education.

Ben is an experienced teacher and school leader who has worked within a variety of institutions over the last 13 years, most recently as head of psychology, assistant director of sixth form and director of teaching and learning at Durham School. He is passionate about identifying and nurturing the talent of young people, ensuring they are offered the opportunities they need to succeed as they progress through secondary education and beyond into F.E, H.E, apprenticeships, training and employment. As the lead education consultant for globalbridge, a role he takes on full-time in June, he has been central to the development of a new and exciting platform that provides a unique opportunity for young people to showcase their talents and that bridges the gap to universities, training providers and employers.

Denis Heaney, Enterprise Coordinator, North East LEP

Denis is affiliated with the Careers and Enterprise Company, coordinating the national Enterprise Adviser network initiative across the North East LEP region. With over 20 years’ experience of working within the area of young peoples’ learning and development he has managed an Education Business Partnership (EBP), coordinated ESF funded initiatives linked to ‘enterprise in education and has managed post-16 training programmes. He has been head of enterprise and work related learning in a secondary school and has worked for Tyneside Training and Enterprise Council (TEC) and Learning Skills Council (LSC), developing and quality assuring the pre-apprenticeship provision with Training Providers. His previous role was working regionally as Employer Engagement Manager.
