Stuart Kime

Director of Education, Evidence Based Education

A qualified teacher and former school leader, researcher and policy advisor, he undertook doctoral research work on student evaluation of teaching with Prof. Rob Coe and Prof. Steve Higgins at Durham University, for which he won the Prize for Outstanding Postgraduate Studies.
Stuart is co-author of the EEF’s DIY Evaluation Guide, an International Affiliate of the LEAD Graduate School at the Eberhard Karls University, Tübingen, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Member of the American Educational Research Association, a Member of the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness, and former Policy Fellow at the UK Government’s Department for Education.

Professor Robert Coe

Director, Centre of Evaluation and Monitoring

Alongside his role as Director of CEM, Robert is a professor in the School of Education. His research work is wide ranging, with a special focus on the use of evaluation and assessment to improve learning. Previously a teacher of mathematics, Rob has wide experience in a range of secondary schools and colleges. He was a member of the Sykes Review of Assessment and is currently a member of Ofqual’s Standards Advisory Group.

Katharine Bailey is Director of Policy at the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) at Durham University. She has many years of experience working with schools and governments in the UK and around the world, helping them to use assessment data for pupil and school improvement.

The Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) at Durham University is one of the largest and longest established research groups providing learning assessment for children of all ages. CEM’s methods are research-based, evidence driven and market-tested, built on a foundation of non-commercial academic practice with the School of Education at Durham University.

Young Writers Programme Manager, National Literacy Trust

Fay is a former secondary school teacher. She joined the National Literacy Trust three years ago and has built up the Young Writers programme which works with primary and secondary schools in the most disadvantaged areas of the UK to develop children and young people’s writing skills and enjoyment of writing. In her current role, she works closely with arts, cultural and heritage venues to provide children with inspirational experiences they can write about. Fay is also a governor at her local secondary school and runs a children’s drama club.

Phil Spoors works for the Teacher Development Trust as Northumberland's CPD Expert Advisor.  Phil is also Assistant Headteacher at Cramlington Learning Village with responsibility for ELearning.  Interested in all things CPD, he has been involved in supporting schools and staff training for a number of years in many different roles.
