Geoff studied English and Linguistics at the University of Lancaster, then trained to teach at Leicester University. From 2002 to 2017 he was headteacher of King Edward VI School, Bury St Edmunds, a comprehensive school of 1650 students.
He is a Founding Fellow of the English Association and writes for a range of newspapers and journals. He has worked with various organisations, including the Department for Education, on leadership and literacy.
Geoff was a longstanding member of ASCL Council, former chair of its Pedagogy Committee, is Patron of the English and Media Centre, and a ‘Leading Thinker’ for the National Education Trust. He became General Secretary of ASCL in April 2017
Head of Training and Development, National Governance Association
Paul is NGA's Head of Training Development. Paul's role includes leading the development of our training offer for governing boards of schools and academies including its face to face, e-learning and blended learning. Alongside NGA's lead consultant Paul oversees NGA's team of trainers and consultants, including recruitment of new members of the team.
Paul has many years governance experience including as chair.
Prior to this, Paul was centre director at the University of Law in York where his role included strategic planning and quality assurance. A former solicitor, Paul has also held course director roles at the University of Westminster and City University and course assessor roles for The Law Society.
Commissioning Editor, The Key
Amy is Head of Proactive Content at The Key and has written for the Guardian and TES on pupil mental health and special educational needs. She is vice-chair of governors and link governor for SEND at Yerbury Primary School in north London. Amy freelances for the BBC, where she works for the editorial team on its annual election programme.
Leadership Specialist, GCSEPod
Michelle has 7 years’ experience working as a Vice Principal in two large Academies in Manchester; one in an extremely deprived context and the other in a selective authority in an affluent area. Michelle has been offering her services as a Leadership Specialist over the last 3 years and is here today representing one of our partners GCSEPod. GCSEPod was a great success in both Academies and Michelle’s passion for the product has led her to this point today.
