Supporting Emotions in Pre-Adolescents

We all deal with our emotions in different ways, some of us withdraw into ourselves and try to work out a solution without help, some of us escalate our behaviour so that everyone knows we aren’t happy about something and others become silent and moody hoping that someone will notice and ask us what is wrong.
We know that children aren’t born with any understanding of emotions, never mind how to deal with them.  How they manage them comes from their care-giver in those very early days.

• How do the children in your care cope?
• Can they find strategies inside themselves when things go wrong?
• Do they fall apart if something doesn’t go their way?
• How can you help them develop resilience and coping skills?

This half day session, will explore how you can support children in their emotional health during difficult changes in their lives, for example a change of classroom, school or friendship group or a change in family circumstances.
It will include information on how children’s brains are wired to deal with emotions, tuning into children’s emotional states and how to help children build resilience.
