Ofsted is consulting on its new Education Inspection Framework, due to take effect in September 2019.

Schools North East will be responding to the consultation on behalf of North East schools and we need your help to put together our response.

On 28 February 2019, we are holding consultation events in the North and South of the region. If you are interested in coming along please complete the appropriate booking form below:

Morning, 9am-11.30am (David Lloyd Sunderland, 3 Camberwell Way, Doxford Park, Sunderland)

Afternoon 1.30pm-4pm (Inspire2Learn, Middlesbrough)

What is changing in the new Framework?

Curriculum will become a key focus under the plans, with inspectors looking for evidence that “young people are being taught the best of what has been thought and said”.  Other changes include:

• The judgement for ‘personal development, behaviour and welfare’ will be split in to two separate categories – ‘behaviour and attitudes’ and ‘personal development’.
• Inspectors will not use non-statutory internal data as inspection evidence.
• Inspectors will arrive at the school on the same day as the school is notified of the inspection for ‘on-site preparation’.

Our submission

We are seeking your views on the overall changes to the framework and how they will work in practice.

All of your input will be considered carefully for use in our submission, which will communicate the voice of North East schools to Ofsted. This will help to refine and improve the proposed approach before the final framework and inspection handbooks are published in summer 2019.
