Recruitment and Retention - the importance of investing in professional development

Thursday 21st January 2021, 2.00pm

Join Schools North East for a session from Tom Rees, Executive Director of School Leadership at Ambition Institute, on the importance of investing in professional development.

The quality of teaching and school leadership are the two factors within our control that have the potential to have the most significant impact on educational outcomes for children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Research shows us that professional development, when carried out effectively, has the ability to improve the quality of teaching and leadership, improve job satisfaction and increase retention rates.

In this session, Tom will explore some of the research behind effective professional development for teachers and school leaders, and the implications for schools and trusts of policy changes such as the Early Career Framework (ECF), National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) and Teaching School Hubs.
