Recruiting and training new teachers - Teaching Agency informative event

12th Jul 2012

The Government has recently expanded the School Direct scheme. The scheme is designed to respond to demand from schools to have greater control and influence over their teacher training programmes and to allow schools to recruit and train trainees in the subjects and phases where their need is greatest.

School Direct gives schools the opportunity to work with an accredited training provider to recruit and train new entrants to the teaching profession with a view to employing them on achievement of QTS.

The scheme replaces the current GTPprogramme from September 2013 and schools with high numbers of pupils on Free School Meals can receive additional funding or bursary top ups to help attract the best candidates.

Interested? Well you need to be quick - requests of interest for School Direct places will need to be submitted by 7 September.

To enable you to find out more and prepare for September, SCHOOLS NorthEast and the Teaching Agency are hosting a free information session on Thursday 12 July from 3.45pm to 5.15pm at Harton Technology College, South Shields. At the event a representative from the Teaching Agency will present the facts about School Direct and you will have the opportunity to ask questions and talk with other schools.  There is no charge for the event and refreshments will be provided.
