12pm - 1pm: Observation of playtime
Come and see a Platinum OPAL Playtime in action - ask the children about how they manage risk and the grown ups about the changes they have seen. You will be amazed at the choice on offer to every child and the adventurous play opportunities available.
1 - 1.20pm Headteacher Presentation
Anthony McGeeney, Headteacher will talk about his OPAL journey and the positive impact improving playtimes has had on the school.
1.25pm - 2.20pm OPAL NE presents the OPAL journey
I?ngrid Wilkinson, Senior OPAL Mentor who has supported over 150 schools on their OPAL journey talks about the cultural change needed in order to deliver outstanding playwork practice. Ingrid will inform schools how the award winning international school improvement programme encourages schools to take a strategic approach to play, helping them to develop key areas around leadership, policy, risk management, environment, staffing, resourcing and playwork training, all of which leads to the transformation of school playtimes.

About GalleyHill Primary School
Galley Hill Primary school started their OPAL journey in March 2021. Despite covid, through their dedicated and committed efforts to improve playtimes they successfully achieved an OPAL Platinum Award in December 2022.
Their play offer is outstanding, ensuring every child has a fantastic playtime every single day. Hosting the largest school sand pit in the UK (over 130 tonne) complete with speedboat, a treehouse, large loose-parts shed, den building , bikes, tree climbing amongst much much more! The strong play team is very committed to continually improving their play offer, led by a fantastic OPAL Working group - and helped by their very supportive parents and local community.

Additional information
The school is located in a housing estate with no car available parking. However there is a Sainsburys local within a 2 min walk as well as a local pub and road side parking available on the outskirts.
Please do bring your own lunch. Refreshments will be served during the afternoon session.
We are expecting this to be a popular event with a limit on numbers. Please let us know if you can no longer come so we can release your place to another school.
