Speakers Include:

Belitta Scott, Senior HMI, North East, Yorkshire & Humber

Belita Scott has considerable leadership experience in education as a headteacher of an outstanding school, as a local authority school improvement partner (including for pupil referral units) and as a member of the management committee of an outstanding provider of school-centred initial teacher training. Belita’s particular areas of expertise are in school improvement, particularly in those schools facing the most challenging circumstances. She has postgraduate qualifications in international educational leadership.

Andy Byers, Headteacher, Framwellgate School, Durham

Andy Byers spent three years as a chartered accountant in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne before becoming a teacher of Economics in Northumberland in 1992.  He was a Head of Department and senior leader in Blyth, helping two schools to merge and move into a new building in 2002, before spending 14 years at one of the best performing schools in the North-East, Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham, first as Deputy Head and for 5 years as Head of School. He has been Headteacher of Framwellgate School Durham since 2017 and tweets as @framheadteacher. Andy is on the advisory board of Schools North East, a visiting fellow at Ambition Institute, and is a member of the Association of Education Advisors.

Ian Turner, Reading Development Consultant, Reading Solutions UK

At Reading Solutions UK, Ian predominantly works with schools that have identified a need to develop pupils’ comprehension, fluency and vocabulary as well as the need to engage pupils who are reluctant and disengaged readers.

Kate Chisholm, Executive Head Teacher, Oakfield Infant & Junior Schools

Kate has been Executive Head Teacher of the Oakfield Federation for just under a term. Prior to this she was Headteacher of  Skerne Park Academy for 10 years.  Working in one of the most disadvantaged wards in the country Kate's work is passionately focussed on closing the attainment gap but ensuring SEND is catered for at the most personal level.  Kate brings her experience of working in some of the most challenging situations and her real-time knowledge of the current educational landscape to the trust board. Having led schools through 4 very different Ofsted Inspection experiences she is happy to share her findings under the new framework.

Michael Robson, Executive Principal, North Shore Academy

Michael has lived and worked in the North East all his life and is proud to have tried to make a difference to his local community.  At 18 years old, having been released from Sunderland FC as a young, professional footballer, he studied and completed a degree in law. At the same time, he was working for the local authority as a Behaviour and Learning Support Mentor in numerous secondary and primary schools in Middlesbrough.  Following completion of his degree, Michael’s work with vulnerable youngsters at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream education led him to the decision to move into teaching, rather than continue his pathway in law. He became a PE teacher in a Middlesbrough secondary school in an area of significant deprivation.
Michael’s career quickly progressed and he became a senior leader with Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT), working in five different schools as they converted to academies sponsored by OGAT.  Michael joined Northern Education Trust in 2017, taking up the position of Principal at North Shore Academy, which has recently been judged as outstanding by Ofsted. Under the leadership of Rob Tarn, CEO, Michael was quickly promoted to Executive Principal, and took a lead role in the rapid school improvement of The Blyth Academy, Red House Academy and more recently, Freebrough Academy.  Blyth and Redhouse were later judged Good by Ofsted. When Freebrough joined the Trust, it was judged to be Special Measures and deemed to be unsafe.  The academy was quickly turned around and has received positive feedback from the local community, the LA and the MP. The work Michael led on for the most vulnerable students was quickly recognised and the Trust was approached by the LA to open a specialist base at Freebrough for children with autism. This opened in September 2021 and the unit is already full with 10 students.

Michael now leads six academies for the Trust as Executive Principal, as well as line managing the Senior Directors of Maths, English and Science.
