The new Inspection framework came into force in September 2019. There is a new requirement in Leadership and Management to take into account staff wellbeing and to respond to issues raised by staff. Here is what the Inspection Handbook says:


Outstanding (1)

Leaders ensure that highly effective and meaningful engagement takes place with staff at all levels and that issues are identified. When issues are identified, in particular about workload, they are consistently dealt with appropriately and quickly.

Staff consistently report high levels of support for well-being issues.

Good (2)

Leaders engage with their staff and are aware and take account of the main pressures on them. They are realistic and constructive in the way they manage staff, including their workload.

Leaders protect staff from bullying and harassment'


The criteria lead to a number of questions:


What does it mean to have 'highly effective and meaningful engagement with staff'?

How are 'issues identified'?

How does leadership manage teachers' workload?

What is a realistic workload?

What advice might be offered to show 'constructive' management of staff? Is managing staff different from leading them?

What does 'consistently dealt with' mean and how is it shown?

How do you demonstrate that issues have been addressed 'appropriately'?

What mechanisms are in place to enable staff to 'report' well-being issues?

What actions need to be taken to provide staff with high level support?

Does your school have a wellbeing policy in place for staff?

Does your school have an anti-bullying policy in place for staff?


This interactive one -day seminar will address these questions and propose how your school might answer them. While there is no one answer to any question that fits all schools, the seminar will enable you to find solutions that are appropriate to your own context. You will leave with an action plan that will demonstrate your commitment to the wellbeing and mental health of not only teachers but all staff within the school. 


Health and Wellbeing Awareness training is an essential element of staff induction and part of their ongoing CPD programme.


Workshop content:

- Health and Wellbeing Framework

- Ten steps towards school staff wellbeing

- Ofsted: Staff Workload and Wellbeing workshop

- Action on sickness absence

- Health and wellbeing resource library

- How Ofsted inspectors will be looking at staff well-being under the new framework

- Implications for schools and their staff


Learning objectives:

- Explore how to set out an effective strategy for health and wellbeing

- Gain ideas for health and wellbeing activities against the new Ofsted requirements for Staff Workload and Wellbeing

- Health and Wellbeing framework that can be implemented

- Practical action plan for your school to work towards the Health and Wellbeing framework


Delegates will receive:

- Review of the school’s Health and Wellbeing policy

- Certificate of attendance

- Refreshments and lunch
