NRICH – Hands on Maths Roadshow
11th and 12th June 2019, Durham Leadership Centre
Delivered in collaboration with NRICH
NRICH is an award-winning Mathematics Education Project based at the University of Cambridge.
The Roadshow is aimed at your highly able cohort in KS1 and/ or KS2 (i.e. those children with high attainment or with the potential for high attainment). However, the activities chosen will engage all abilities of learners and ignite curiosity in those who find maths difficult
The event will be led by the NRICH Maths Roadshow Coordinator, Andrew Sharpe https://nrich.maths.org/2714, who will deliver rich tasks to groups of up to 30 students in multiple sessions during his visit.
~~The Aims and Benefits: We aim to equip pupils with skills that will last long after their session. The presentations and activities are carefully designed to develop widely applicable problem solving skills which will help support delivery of your curriculum.
We highly encourage you to have as many staff and parents as possible visit the Roadshow. This is for their own professional development and to help build a great environment for children to be creative, resilient and collaborative mathematicians.
Activities: The Roadshow activities are hands-on so pencil cases can be left at the door to be replaced by interactives like teacups & saucers, multi-link cubes, dice and even a 1m3 Soma cube. The activities are taken from ideas on the NRICH website translated into physical form.
