A specially designed flexible CPD programme for teachers involved in delivering GCSE Mathematics, or are new or returning to teaching, to refresh knowledge to enable effective teaching at both higher and foundation levels.

This programme, developed by NCETM, is designed to focus on those elements of mathematical subject content and subject pedagogy enabling all maths teachers to become expert teachers of higher level GCSE Mathematics with strong focus on problem solving.

Who should participate in this programme?

In order to benefit from attending these workshops it will normally be expected that participants are or will be teaching some level of mathematics. 

The programme will particularly benefit those practitioners who:

  • are teaching or have recent experience in teaching this age range
  • are currently teaching science or some maths related subject and who wish to develop their skills to teach GCSE Mathematics
  • will be teaching GCSE Mathematics within a year of the programme

How is the programme structured?

The programme of professional development offers 2-session workshops in each of the key areas of GCSE Mathematics:-

  • Algebra
  • Statistics
  • Geometry
  • Trigonometry

The training is delivered allowing face to face activity, blended with personal support activities.  

The programme enables teachers to:

  • self-assess their knowledge of the subject content 
  • refresh subject knowledge and confidence in teaching maths at this level
  • enhance pedagogical skills, including making appropriate use of resources and technology to engage learners experience a range of resources for teaching GCSE Mathematics

Training Dates

We realise it may be difficult for delegates to be released for the entire duration of the programme, so why not attend those sessions dedicated to areas you would like to focus on?

Course One : Algebra  -  11 & 18 November 2015, Langdale Centre, Langdale Gardens, Wallsend

Course Two : Statistics - 1 & 8 December 2015 (venue to be advised), Sunderland

Course Three : Geometry - 13 & 20 January 2015, Ramside Hall Hotel, County Durham 

Course Four : Trigonometry - 2 & 9 February 2015, (venue to be advised), Gateshead

Each session begins at 11am promptly and will end at 4pm.  Lunch will be provided on both days.  

NB:  Delegates are expected to attend both days of each course they have booked.

Cost

There will be a fee of £125 per delegate per course (this includes a £50 non returnable deposit).
