Description
Many professionals working in careers, education and social services have caseloads that include young people and adults with SEND. If you are new to this area of work you may have specific training needs to help you build your knowledge and confidence in working with this client group.

The CDI has created this one-day regional conference programme to provide practitioners with a valuable opportunity to learn more about what it means to have a disability, some of the issues people with difficulties/disabilities face and to suggest possible ways of working with this diverse client group.

Learning outcomes

• Enhance your disability awareness
• Introduce you to cognitive neuro psychology
• Achieve better understanding of profound and multiple learning difficulties
• Identify symptoms of common mental health disorders
• Better understand the autistic spectrum from Asperger’s Syndrome to autism
• Understand the implications of the Mental Capacity Act for your practice
• Learn about the transition from Special School to FE College for SEND young people and how this might be managed
• Signpost to appropriate services and a chance to try out different resources
