Curriculum Conversations
Coherent Curriculum Design in the EBACC Subjects With Mary Myatt author of ‘ Curriculum: From Gallimaufry to Coherence’
17th June 2019, Durham Leadership Centre

At school and subject level there is a need to re-examine what is meant by coherent curriculum design and to revisit what we teach and why. This conference will be informed by the national context and educational debates around this but also give practical support to moving forward with curriculum design in subjects.

  • Aimed at subject leads of EBACC subjects in the secondary phase this conference aims to:
  • Update leaders on  latest educational thinking around curriculum ,  supporting the best outcomes for pupils and readiness for the new OFSTED framework
  • Further develop understanding of curriculum intent and sequencing in subject areas
  • Explore how subject leaders can design their curriculum to deliver  coherence and progression in learning

To minimise the impact on schools but maximise this CPD opportunity, this half day conference will run for Maths, Geography and History in the morning and in the afternoon for English, Science and MFL.  Senior leaders are warmly invited to attend with their subject leads.  There will be a senior leader workshop with Mary Myatt as part of the morning or afternoon sessions.

Mary Myatt is an education adviser, writer and speaker. She trained as an RE teacher and has also taught English, history, maths and Latin. A former local authority adviser and inspector, she works in schools talking to pupils, teachers and leaders about learning, leadership and the curriculum. She maintains that there are no quick fixes and that great outcomes for pupils are not achieved through tick boxes. Mary writes and speaks at conferences about leadership, curriculum and school improvement.
