Observations indicate that there is an abrupt transition and ideological dissonance between the foundation stage and key stage one. This results in a lack of security and a break in children’s ability to function as effective learners.

The session will offer opportunities for participants to:

• Explore the learning needs of children within a rapidly changing world
• Reflect upon the individual ways and rates of learning and development demonstrated in Year 1
• Consider the types of learning environments that support individual approaches to learning
• Explore some of the ways to manage and organise a supportive learning environment for a range of learners
• Explore and observe in practice the Negotiated Curriculum approach as a means to support children's transitions and beyond

The session will take place in a Primary School where course participants will have the opportunity to observe children within a year 1 classroom setting and talk with the class
teacher about the approach established
