Join Schools North East and the North East Child Poverty Commission for a panel discussion on the disadvantage gap in our region and the impact that the Covid pandemic is having on this issue. Prior to Covid-19 the North East had the second highest rate of child poverty of anywhere in the UK; experienced the steepest recent increase in child poverty rates; and continues to have the highest proportion of FSM pupils.
This event will consider the impact of the pandemic on disadvantage to date; what role the digital divide is playing in exacerbating this gap for North East pupils; and what more can be done to address this issue, both during and after the pandemic. This will include discussing whether we have regional ‘asks’ to put to policymakers.
