White working class: how can schools tackle underachievement and raise attainment?

This full day conference will bring school leaders from across the North East together to discuss the specific challenges and barriers to education faced by students from white working class communities.


The conference will look at a range of the key issues, including: how we define ‘white working class’; how schools can identify students at risk of underachievement; and, measures schools can take to prevent this from happening. It will also include a focus on the specific challenges faced by coastal schools.

The agenda will include a mixture of keynote speakers and solution-orientated, interactive workshops.

The event will be followed up by further school-led research into the issues and ideas uncovered during the day.  This conference forms part of a wider programme of work by SCHOOLS NorthEast, aimed at making the North East a hub for evidence-based excellence in education.
